St. John the Evangelist has many opportunities to volunteer. It’s a great way to connect with the rest of the parish, meet new friends, and help the church at the same time! We could not survive without our team of volunteers.
VIRTUS – Training for adult volunteers
Our parish supports and complies with the Archdiocese of Baltimore policies and practices aimed at creating and maintaining a safe environment where our children will thrive. With our longstanding commitment in mind, in 2017, the Archdiocese joined more than 90 dioceses using VIRTUS as our training and compliance management system. VIRTUS is a compliance management system that allows all parishes and schools to facilitate compliance with archdiocesan child protection requirements for all volunteers who work with minors, employees, and clergy.
All adult volunteers (18 years or older) MUST complete VIRTUS prior to the start of their volunteer service.
There are two different types of training VIRTUS has to offer for volunteers. Whichever ministry you are called to serve in will determine which training you will need to complete.
Volunteers should contact the SJERC Child Protection Compliance Coordinator for instructions on completing the required training.

Worthy of the Call – Training for youth volunteers (14-17 years old)
We would love, and highly encourage, youth to serve at the parish and in the community!
All youth volunteers (14-17 years old) who are in contact with minors must complete Worthy of the Call before the start of their volunteer service.
If you are interested in a date after November 14, please call the Youth Coordinator Pablo Maldonado, 410-964-1425, x318 for the next available date. (If we do not receive sign-ups for a given month the training will not be held.)
Worthy of the Call RegistrationIn addition to the training, a volunteer application needs to be completed and signed by both youth and parents. Every young person will need three references older than 18 years old. Make sure to list their information on the application. References can complete the forms found in the application packet.
Reporting Abuse or Neglect
The Archdiocese of Baltimore urges anyone who has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect to report it immediately to the local Department of Social Services, Child Protective Services at 410-872-8700. If anyone suspects Church Personnel of abuse, neglect, or misconduct with a minor, please also call the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Victim Assistance Hotline at 1-866-417-7469.
Thank you for making our Church stronger, more accountable, and a clearer reflection of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
