Precious Blood

Saint John will re-start offering the Precious Blood on the Feast of Corpus Christi.

Many of you have asked about the Precious Blood during Communion. The liturgy committee has reviewed this request. We will then re-start offering the Precious Blood on the feast of Corpus Christi on June 22nd. Two chalices of the Precious Blood will be offered at each Mass. Those who wish to receive communion under both species can receive the Body of Christ in the form of a Consecrated Host and then step over to another minister who has a chalice with the Blood of Christ.

However, please be reminded that a Catholic is not required to receive the Eucharist under both species. Our Catholic teaching reminds us that receiving the host in Holy Communion also entails receiving the Blood of Christ. This is because the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus are believed to be fully present in both the host and the Precious Blood. Christ is wholly present under either form. This is the doctrine of concomitance. Other parishioners, who due to various degrees of gluten intolerance, may have the option to receive from the chalice only. This is permissible. But Saint John will continue to provide low-gluten hosts to parishioners upon request before Mass.

San Juan volverá a ofrecer la Preciosa Sangre en la fiesta del Corpus Christi. Muchos de ustedes han preguntado acerca de la Preciosa Sangre durante la Comunión. El comité de liturgia ha revisado esta petición. Reanudaremos el ofrecimiento de la Preciosa Sangre en la fiesta del Corpus Christi, el 22 de junio. Se ofrecerán dos cálices de la Preciosa Sangre en cada Misa. Aquellos que deseen recibir la comunión bajo ambas especies pueden recibir el Cuerpo de Cristo en forma de Hostia Consagrada y luego pasar a otro ministro que tenga un cáliz con la Sangre de Cristo. Sin embargo, le recordamos que un católico no está obligado a recibir la Eucaristía bajo las dos especies.
