Updates on Sending

Colorful people icons in circle representing sending and outreach

The Critical Success Factor that drives Sending is central to all our Pastoral Planning efforts: members of diverse cultures uniquely gather, recognizing themselves in prayer and experiencing conversion as their hearts grow closer to God.

Similarly, our Liturgy goal addresses the integration – not assimilation – of our Hispanic and English communities, unifying our parish so that we can celebrate together without the loss of cultural identity.

Sending also encompasses our outreach to all within our dynamic and multicultural parish. This includes cultural diversity – Hispanic, Latino, Black, African American, African, Caribbean, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American – as well as the differently abled, LGBTQ, and Divorced populations.

Additionally, Sending covers intergenerational programs to include Seniors, empty nesters, young families, young adults, and youth. Work within this goal is foundational, and hopefully building that strong foundation will encourage wide participation in associated ministries and events.

Here’s how we are currently addressing Sending:

  • The Racial Justice Committee is offering weekly “Honest Conversations” sessions on Racial Justice during Lent. This program will ensure racism in all its forms is addressed without underplaying the history of oppression of the African American community.
  • A small group of staff and parishioners are researching the formation of an LGBTQ ministry.
  • Training for Liturgical Ministers includes an increase of support to the differently abled.
  • We are looking at restarting a form of SWORD (Separated, Widowed, or Divorced) Ministry, offered in the past.
  • Intergenerational seminars/discussions began last month to increase our understanding of how generational divides within the parish can be bridged through understanding how each sees God, sees Church, and chooses to worship. Look for the next two events, coming soon.
